we worked for a decade to provide access to primary healthcare in the democratic republic of congo, where basic necessities are often unavailable. as the project architect for ASSp and ima world health, antonio collaborated with the ministry of health to develop the national plan for rural health centers and rural hospitals that is still used 15 years later. we also built 108 new health centers and renovated over 250 in a five year span, then added over 500 water and sanitation projects to increase the capacity of patient care in those centers.
today dwela works with congo helping hands and the ministry of hydraulic works to provide potable water to health centers and the surrounding community. we are using an innovative mix of technology that uses water “ATms” as a means of ensuring the solar powered water systems we install have the funding needed to be maintained and repaired. we have recently been granted authority to repair and finish several large systems installed by the government but are currently not operating.
