welcome to dwela hq! this is the first container house to be completely designed and built by dwela in costa rica. we wanted to live on a sailboat, but as the family grew we decided to try a tiny home first. this container was no longer fit for international trade, so we recycled it into a living machine that even le corbusier would be cozy in.
since it is our house and future office, we wanted to showcase our sustainable systems integration skills, and also test certain permaculture theories for validity and ease of operation. we installed a greywater tank that helps offset irrigation in the dry season with our bath and sink water. we also added a green roof and charred cedar siding to keep the sun from hitting the container so it stays cool. lastly, we have composting toilets and a compost bin for food waste, and a grey-water storage system that keep our gardens lush year round.
