PAX Polyclinique

2013-present

My home for my first year in Congo, the PAX is where we return every year to continue improving as funding trickles in. The evolution of this hospital in downtown Kananga began with the laboratory and dental clinic to help generate funds. Then we renovated the women’s center moving all OB/GYN consultation to one side of the campus, expanded the maternity, and built an operating theater (from an old movie theater and stage.)

We are currently updating the electrical system by adding in updated solar technology, rewiring all circuits, and replacing fixtures with more efficient options. This is being done in collaboration with Durable Solutions Congo, IMCK, and Congo Helping Hands.

Congo Helping Hands is spearheading installation of a solar powered water system using the SmartTap water ATM to distribute potable water to the hospital and community

An aerial shot while we were moving panels around and putting the finishing touches on the water system.

The courtyard garden and front was my pet project that we executed during the Women’s Center Renovation in 2017, as well as the more ornamental in the front gardens that included a wall of passionfruit and three (now giant) cacao trees that produce fruit.
